Most lofts can be converted. To achieve a Loft Conversion you require between 2.2m – 2.3m head height from the ceiling joist to the internal ridge. In the event that you fall short of this head height requirement, you may consider lowering your ceilings. Altitude Lofts will advise you if this is required within your Initial Consultation phase.

Loft conversion planning permission is only generally required if you live in a Flat or in a Conservation Area. Many properties have Permitted Development rights attached to them and therefore loft conversions can be undertaken once  ‘Certificate of Lawfulness’ is obtained from your local council. Altitude Lofts will advise you of your options with regards to obtaining the appropriate permissions.

The time taken to build a loft conversion varies depending on the size of the build and any adverse weather conditions but we aim to complete all works within 6-8 weeks from the date the initial materials are delivered.

We aim to commence works as soon as we have all relevant paperwork in place including the permission from the local authority, which typically takes 8-10 weeks.

A Party Wall Agreement is an agreement between you and your neighbour(s), which protects both parties when works are being carried out on a party wall. A Party wall Agreement is required if you live in a terraced or a semi-detached property and share an adjoining wall. Altitude Lofts will assist you in discussing these with your neighbour(s) prior to works commencing.

Our on site team will remain with the external roof space for as long as they possibly can. Until the staircase is due to be fitted, all works will be carried out externally in order to minimise the disruption to you and your family. Once our team enters your home, we will ensure all carpets and furnishings are protected and the site is cleaned before the team leaves every day.

Upon completion of your Loft Conversion, Altitude Lofts will provide you with a 10-year company guarantee. An independent Building Control Surveyor will also sign off all works.

A recent study by Nationwide Building Society in 2016 has shown that on average having your loft converted increases the value of your home by approximately 22%.
