How has the loft conversion changed your family's lives?

The loft conversion has transformed our family home and the way we use it. Before the work (we had our first floor renovated during the project too), we didn't utilise upstairs much and spatially, it just didn't work. Now it feels like a brand new house and we're thrilled with the result.

At what stage of the project were you most pleased?

We really enjoyed seeing the structure of the dormer come together as we'd spent so long trying to visualise it and the space we'd get. The team on and off-site worked incredibly hard and were very tidy and respectful of our property and our neighbours.

What were you most worried about prior to the project commencing?

We had to lower the ceilings on the first floor to gain the regulated height in the loft so we took the opportunity to renovate the entire first floor (including the family bathroom) whilst we were at it, too. It was a bigger project than initially anticipated so we moved out of the property as we have two young children. We had planned for 4 weeks but we were out for 8 weeks in the end. Just something to be aware of as it was an unexpected but necessary cost for us.

Were the timescales provided met and within your expectations?

Absolutely. If it wasn't for the first floor works too, the loft would have been completed within about 5-6 weeks.

Did Altitude Lofts stick to the quote provided prior to the works starting?

Yes, the initial quote remained the same but as the project was bigger than just the loft, we had a lot of additional costs which became complicated to track. There were also a few unexpected costs like a full house rewire and the additional weeks of accommodation that we hadn't budgeted for. It's worth having a healthy pot of contingency! Although we went over budget, we couldn't be happier with the finish and attention to detail. Everyone who has seen the transformation has loved it!

How would you rate Altitude Lofts?

They're such a passionate, hard-working team who just want to create the most perfect lofts for their clients. We found that everyone we dealt with, both in the office and onsite, were incredibly helpful and experts in their field. We've been so impressed - 10/10!

A special mention to our fitters (David and Michael) who worked tirelessly and were extremely patient with us.

As our ceilings were being lowered to gain head height in the loft, we had to move out for a number of weeks but we had absolute trust for our house to be left in their hands. They worked long, hard days and were so respectful of our property and our neighbours. All the various trades have been absolutely fantastic, all with a can-do, professional attitude and with an excellent finish. The decorator, Val, in particular, has been wonderful and a joy to have around the house.

A big thank you to Billy, Chiara and our project manager, Emma at Altitude. Having a lovely and friendly project manager to oversee and manage the build, took a lot of weight off our shoulders, especially with having two young children. I’ll miss What’s Apping Emma every day!

At a time when everyone is staying at home more, we’re so grateful to have gained such a beautiful space for our family to grow into. We really couldn’t be happier and would recommend Altitude 100 times over!"
